You have an adult ADHD diagnosis. Now what?

ADHD treatment in the UK has issues. Long waits for assessments are followed by lack of resources once diagnosed. A recent study claimed that UK adult ADHD services are “in crisis.”

Once diagnosed, you will likely be offered medication. This is hugely beneficial for many people with ADHD. In fact, because medication usually works so well, other aspects of treatment can be neglected. Patients left to their own devices apart from occasional check-ins.

So we have to learn to manage things ourselves. Here are a few things that help me manage my ADHD.

What is hurry sickness?

Are you constantly rushing, feeling an urgency to complete tasks, frustrated at any impediment? Always multitasking, unable to sit down or relax? Then you may suffer from hurry sickness.

Hurry sickness is a behaviour pattern characterised by constant panic and rush, even when it’s unnecessary to be moving so fast. It isn’t a diagnosable condition as such; the term was coined by cardiologists Meyer Friedman and Ray Rosenman and made popular in their 1974 book Type A Behaviour and Your Heart.

Have Millennials Made Therapy ‘Trendy’?

Millennials are known as the ‘therapy generation’. They seek help with their mental health more readily than previous generations and are open about it.

According to Deloitte’s 2023 Millennial and Gen Z survey:

  • 4 in 10 millennials feel stressed or anxious most or all of the time
  • 82% say that mental health support and policies are important when considering an employer
  • 73% cite concerns about their mental health contributing to their stress

So mental health is important to millennials. Why?

2024: Lower your expectations

There’s no doubt it’s been a hard year for many of us. Looking ahead, we need to manage our 2024 expectations realistically. For the sake of our mental health if nothing else.

Why was 2023 so tough?

The cost-of-living crisis, coupled with ongoing recovery from the COVID-19 pandemic, means that many of us didn’t have the year we expected.
