Stop procrastinating today

I want to help you to stop procrastinating, and help you to get what you need to get done today.

Start small.

When I say that, I mean go and pick up that sock on the floor that’s been there a couple of days.

The reason you have been procrastinating is that you have gotten so used to procrastination with every little task.

Doing these small things will help you to break the cycle of procrastination. It will allow you to make fewer excuses for not doing something or delaying tasks that you know need doing right now.

Break your tasks into smaller chunks

One of the main reasons people procrastinate is because you feel overwhelmed. Feeling overwhelmed stops you from starting at all and drives you to do something to take your mind off of it.

Break up your tasks into manageable chunks so that you can tackle one part at a time.

Keep your eye on the bigger picture.

Even though my previous step is to break your tasks into smaller chunks, you need to know where you are headed. Be aware of it but try not to feel daunted or allow the bigger picture to stop you from starting.

Enjoy what you are doing.

Even if you are not enjoying the task at hand, look past the task and enjoy the thought that it will be off your plate. You could even offer yourself a prize for completing the task.

This doesn’t mean do 10 minutes of work and then watch an hour-long show on Netflix. Make sure that you are actively doing the work but give yourself enough time in between, as being tired will add to the frustration of the task at hand.

The last two steps are to start now and keep at it.

Start doing the things you know you should be doing right now. Make it manageable, give yourself breaks but make sure you keep your eyes on the prize. Soon you will see the hard work pay off and feel the relief that those big projects are off your plate.
