Your relationship should be as strong as it felt from the very beginning. But this doesn’t mean reverting back to old habits or thinking you have changed in a negative way.
What this does mean, however is learning to adapt and grow within your relationship.
You as a couple, means understanding who each of you has become as opposed to who you were. If you are interested in couple counselling, this is the first step in adding a new layer to your relationship, which is understanding who you are individually as well as in a couple.
This is what couple counselling can offer. When entering therapy, you can begin to uncover patterns which have led you to where you are now.
What couple counselling can help you with.
As with all counselling, you are opening up in a confidential and non-judgmental space in order to unpack and rework past and current issues.
This doesn’t have to be a specific issue centred around yourselves as a couple, but it can even strengthen who you are as an individual. Once you learn about what your partner expects, what you expect, and also what you expect of yourselves, you can really build a new foundation of trust and motivation for the future.
With that said, counselling usually will usually begin with a catalyst and this can be from a range of issues including:
- Work-life balance
There is no issue too small to begin counselling. The therapy room is there to help you open up in ways you may not be able to in your day to day life, and – commonly – real life can get in the way.
This becomes a regular time and place to consider, and work on, just yourselves and what you mean to each other.
Is couple counselling for you?
When beginning counselling with your partner, the first step is to understand what each other wants and if it is in line with your beliefs and expectations of the relationship.
Within sessions you can use the space to listen to each other and open up in ways you may never have done before, meaning you can find a balance with what each of you wants.
