Make Changes At Your Happiest! Summer is coming.

With Summer on the way we are finally feeling some glimmer of warmth and sun as we step outside. This brings about all kinds of emotions and feelings. A lot of us will be feeling happy, lighter, more driven and motivated – and there’s a reason for that.
Summer itself has an abundance of health benefits including Vitamin D, which we are usually lacking in the darker colder months.
It’s a form of Pathetic Fallacy where the weather will reflect how we are feeling. It’s also important to note that the weather does have a powerful impact on us, rather than just a reflection.
Why do I need to know about the weather?
This does in fact play a large role in when we can and should focus on our wellbeing for the most effective, long-term change.
When it is cold, dark, and we feel lethargic, unmotivated and overall sad, things can feel somewhat hopeless. This is when very little is done and there is a reason for that. Our minds and bodies will want to go into a state of hibernation, preserve the status quo and preserve energy. During this time we want to stay inside, eat warm, comforting foods because we are lacking many of the hormones and vitamins that we need in order to have that get-up-and-go attitude.
When we start to feel warmth and have lighter, longer days, we obtain a steep increase in:
- Dopamine: The “feel-good” one.
- Serotonin: This mood regulator. As well as regulating sleep, appetite, and cognition.
- Oxytocin: The “love hormone”
These increases give you the energy and motivation to continue to take action. Those actions (activities, exercise, socialising, planning) then release the endorphins you need to ensure you continue on this positive cycle.
This cycle of productivity is most effective and sustainable from when you are feeling happier.
You may think that when you feel sad and unmotivated that you need to just get up and get going – but we all know full well that it is far easier said than done.
Why should I change if I’m already feeling happy in the Summer?
When you are fueled by those feel-good hormones in the Spring and Summer, you have far more clarity on yourself and your goals than you did earlier in the year.
It may seem like ‘things aren’t so bad’ in the warmer months, but this is when it is the most important for you to act on those changes that you’re aiming for.
That cycle of positive change is far easier to start and sustain at your happiest, which is what the Summer should be used for.
So what have your goals been and how can you get started on this. This is the time to take advantage of this time and set yourself up for the best year ahead possible.
