Enfield, home of the first cash machine

Enfield Town has a market older than most family trees, and a small claim to a piece of banking history. Enfield's got a long memory, and a market that's still part of the town.

• Enfield Market: Edward I granted a weekly market licence to Humphrey de Bohun in 1303.
• The first cash machine: the world's first went in at the Barclays branch here on 27 June 1967.
• Royal Small Arms Factory: a gunmaking factory that stood at Enfield Lock.
• Getting there: Enfield Town, Enfield Chase and Southbury are the main stations.

Enfield Town is split between EN1 and EN2, and this guide covers both. Browse every Enfield therapist we list.

Enfield, mapped

Always giving and never topping up?

Some people are the ones everyone leans on. It feels like being useful, and often it's a way of feeling safe, because if you're needed you can't be left. But an account that only ever pays out runs dry.

It might help to talk to someone if you're noticing:

• Work pressure that's eating your evenings
• Anxiety that spikes when you say no
• Family pressure that lands on you first
• Relationship strain that you haven't found the words for

None of this needs a label. Each link above opens a page on the subject, and a counsellor's there to help you work out the rest. Being needed can feel good for a long time before it starts to cost you.

What does 'listed' mean?

A real practitioner with a profile you can read for yourself. You browse, you choose, and you get in touch directly. The point is that you're choosing someone you'd actually want to talk to.

Every therapist listed has been checked for:

• Registration with their professional body
• Relevant qualifications and experience
• The specialisms they actually practise

Can I see a counsellor in Enfield online?

Yes. If your week's a juggle, a video session slots in more easily than a trip across the borough, and it carries the same weight. It also spares you the journey home in the dark after a hard session.

Is there free therapy in Enfield?

Yes. Barnet & Enfield Talking Therapies is the NHS service, and Enfield GP patients can refer themselves. If you'd like more say over who you see, Therapy in London is there for that. The service is aimed at everyday difficulties, so read the page to see whether it fits.

How much does counselling in Enfield cost?

Each counsellor decides their own fees, so it varies. The profiles show what people offer, and looking costs nothing. Some people find it helpful to write down what they'd like from a first session, and the profiles help with that.
